MegaVoice is an
incredible handheld device used to play Scripture recordings, especially in
pre-literate societies. Think "mp3 player" or "iPod", but this device
has it's own unique design for use in pre-technical, pre-literate societies.
- built in speaker - 30 people can listen at once
- solar panel on back - no batteries required
- durable heavy plastic construction
- compression scheme permits encoding entire Bible on single unit
- message is hard-coded and proprietary - cannot be hijacked for some
unintended use
-
can
be reprogrammed in the field - new material can be added as it becomes
available
- large buttons to jump back and forth to books, chapters, and paragraphs
- cost effective
Actually "MegaVoice" is the name of the organization (MegaVoice
International) that created these little units, and on their
website they offer several different
devices. The player pictured and described above is the favorite, the
"Ambassador", but to most people, it's simply known as a MegaVoice.

In
addition to the MegaVoice (Ambassador) players, the Scribe unit is needed to
program or re-program players that have been distributed in the field.
The Scribe itself receives downloads from a laptop by USB cable. The
sound files must be compiled by MegaVoice engineers.

The pages in this section describe procedures and resources developed to
enhance the deployment and distribution of MegaVoices for the glory of God!
