While the solar panel power is the ideal means of supplying needed electric power to MegaVoices, in some conditions (dense rainforest), it may be useful to develop alternative power sources. 

• It takes 14 hours in direct sunlight to fully charge the player to play 10 hours.
• The players do not trickle-charge in overcast or shadowy conditions.
• Player permits an alternative 9V power source to play/recharge.
• 1.3mm/3.5mm coaxial plug

Potential alterative power sources under development are:

1. 6 x AA batteries in a pack
   • universally available
   • 25 hour play time
2. 6 x D batteries in a pack
   • universally available
   • 180 hour play time
3. Voltage regulator to drop 12V DC (car, motorcycle battery) to 9V DC
