Prayer Needs

  • For God to bring the right team members for the trips this year.
  • For the location, planning, and preparation of the conferences with the purpose to expand God's Kingdom and strengthen the churches.
  • For specific topics and the leading of the Holy Spirit in all we do.
  • For our friends and partners in Africa: Alfred, Amos L.,  Dieudonne, Martin, Mbusa. For God to provide for them, and guide them also as they plan and invite church leaders from their country.
  • Pray for our partners in Costa Rica: Timothy, Philip, and David Jones, as they are translating the Bible into the Cabecar language, as we work with them in producing discipleship materials for the Cabecar Indian pastors, and in the planning of training conferences.
  • For peace in Congo.
  • For the believers to keep the faith and expand God's Kingdom.
  • For continued fruit from the conferences last year.
  • For God to provide for us.
  • For God's wisdom and direction.
  • For God's protection.

Thank you to our board members at Equip Disciples for their counsel, support, and encouragement throughout the years! Joe Friberg- Pres. and Treasurer; Jennifer Carson- Vice Pres.; Tammie Friberg- Sec.; and members: Brad Scott; Mark Carson; Cheryl Allovio; Jeff Caffey; and Phyllis Hardy.

Merry Christmas!

Let all mortal flesh keep silence...
Christ our God to earth descendeth...

As with ceaseless voice they cry,
"Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia

God Most High.

Equip Disciples Ministry Needs
for 2010

Please read through our needs below, and consider giving a gift to help us in ministry this year.

*We have a special gift of appreciation for donations of $100 or more--
see details below!

Theological Discipleship Materials.
Get One/Give One.
$5 per book

These materials are ones we teach from in all of our conferences. Each church leader is given one to take notes from and use in their own ministries. They are useful in literate and illiterate settings, and for people of all ages and spiritual maturity.  To help out our printing costs, we are now offering our Theological Discipleship Manual for sale here in the States. These manuals are excellent references for parents to teach their children a Biblical worldview; for self and group study; and for church leaders who are working in 3rd world countries. Consider buying one for yourself and donating the cost to print one for a pastor in Africa or Costa Rica. We need around 600 for our conferences this summer. We have English, Swahili, Kinyarwanda versions available, and a condensed version in Spanish.

Get your own Theological Discipleship Manual for $5 plus shipping (starting at $2.38). Get one for a pastor in Africa or Costa Rica for an additional $5 donation.

You may order on-line at ../

Bibles for Pastors and Church Leaders. $20 for each study Bible

This year we will be leading around 4 conferences for church leaders in Africa and Costa Rica.  At each conference we give the pastors and church leaders study Bibles. In most cases, these pastors and church leaders do not have study Bibles, and some of them do not own their own Bible. In fact, there are whole congregations which do not have Bibles. Consider giving a Bible for a pastor or church leader in need. This year we hope to give out around 600 Bibles. We purchase and distribute these Bibles while we are in Africa.

Self-Sustaining Caf for Former Child Soldiers in DR Congo. $947

As you know, two years ago we led a youth camp for former child soldiers who were being reintegrated into civilian life in the city of Goma, DR Congo. All 40 of the youth came to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. After this time, some of them could not return to their homes either because there were no longer family members alive, or because people feared them and would kill them.  They were also in danger of being captured once again by rebel groups and forced to fight, or to be killed for leaving.  In fact, some of these boys after we left, were recaptured and later escaped.  Some, we do not know what has become of them. As a ministry, we have been supporting the boys who escaped for two years,  providing clothing, shelter, and schooling. We are trying to set up a cafe for them so that they can be self-sustaining and learn some business skills. We are doing this with the help of our partner ministry there in Congo, Beyond the Bridge Ministries.

Starting an Equip Disciples Printshop/Bookstore in Nairobi, Kenya. $3500

This summer we are planning to start a print shop in Nairobi so that we can print our materials cheaper and have a place to offer them to churches across East and Central Africa. Discipleship materials are scarce in most parts of Africa, and very expensive. We hope to be able to offer discipleship materials for little cost to the people. We will also offer other types of resources there such as Bibles and study guides.

Thank You for your Support!

We value your help in our ministry. All donations postmarked by December 31 will count for 2009. We will be issuing year-end statements to contributors shortly after the close of the year. We cannot do any of the conferences without your support and prayers. Every little bit helps us to achieve the opportunities God has placed before us.  May God's blessings and the warmth of His presence be with you this Christmas season and through-out the year.

While Supplies Last, we will send everyone who donates $100 or more to Equip Disciples, a bar of homemade organic hand soap made from goats milk and essential oils, along with a copy of our Discipleship Manual. This soap was donated by a friend who makes it, and is very good for your skin.

Equip Disciples is a 501(c)(3) non-profit ministry.
All donations are tax-deductable.

Spontaneous Discipleship Conferences.

This year several people who attended our summer conferences went back to their hometowns to lead a training conference for others.  The picture to the right is of a conference held in East Africa for Baptist Church pastors in one city.

Working on a Spanish Theological Discipleship translation for use in Costa Rica.

Plans are to work with a Cabecar artist to illustrate the Theological Discipleship materials for use among Cabecar Indians in the rainforests of Costa Rica. We are starting with a Spanish translation, later to be translated into Cabecar. We have had other requests for a Spanish version, so we are working to complete this task.

Working on a Chinese and African French Theological Discipleship Manual translation for future use.

Discipleship Corner...

Unhealthy Sources of Identity

Rev. John Stroud, Pastor of Discipleship at Old Dominion Baptist Church in Bristow, VA, has served as a teacher in SE Asia and has an on-going counseling/ discipleship ministry in SE Asia. John served with Tammie on a team in Minnesota and Wisconsin through the Baptist Student Ministry while they were both in college.

Guest article by Rev. John Stroud

Unfortunately, I often define myself, not only by my past sins, but also by my past wounds and successes. Sometimes the failures of my past shape my identity and I see myself as a pervert, a narcissist, a liar, a Pharisee or a gossip. The enemy loves it when I drag my failures forward, and he's all too willing to add his two cents to the discussion. He's also happy when I look at my successes to define myself. He is a major proponent of the "I am what I do and how well I do it" philosophy. Allow a success or two- even in the area of victory over sin- to happen, and it's not long before I'm seeing myself as an excellent counselor, a gifted singer, an anointed preacher or a clever IT guy. All or none of these things may be true, but they NEVER define me! What I do is NOT who I am! When my wounds, hurts and losses rise up to become a theme in my thinking, I can fall into the pattern of believing that I am defined by them- I am a victim. I am detestable to others. I'm not a real man. Blah, blah, blah! Again, I am not defined by the wounds of my past! They are a historical fact, but they don't say a thing about who I am!

To find my identity, you have to look at whose I am. I belong to God. He is my creator and my Father. I am His precious son. I have been brought out of death into life, out of darkness into light. He has given me the righteousness of Jesus. He has "removed" my sins from me and has raised me to walk in newness of LIFE. This is the supreme reality of my life and the source of my identity.

I must continually remind myself where Identity comes from and what Papa says of me. The key to believing this truth is hearing it from Him over and over again. As I know and love Him, I become more and more convinced of His love. He shapes my will, aligning it with His own and empowers me with the very life of Jesus to do that will!

Have a Merry Christmas!

Pay attention to the ministry you have received in the Lord, so that you can accomplish it.
